Our Work / Romulo Café

The main challenge for this project was the short time scale, with under two months to turn around the project, from concept design through to opening, leaving little wiggle room for any project turbulence. Further to this, the bar on the left-hand-side of the entrance would need to be taken out, creating improved sight lines deeper into the restaurant. A new bar solution would be required. Finally, the main restaurant space at the back of the restaurant, and the café in the fore of the restaurant, had distinct identities. These would need to be combined into a single dining destination. Overall, the new concept would need to stick in the memories of passing drivers , so it would need to be eye-catching.

CADA produced a refreshed, contemporary brand and interior identity for Romulo Café that draws on the authentic palette of the brand’s Manila origins, and will catch the eye of passing traffic. This is mostly achieved through the use of a high contrast lime green and charcoal grey colour pallet.

We removed the bar from the left-hand-side wall, creating advanced sight lines into the restaurant, creating a new bar on the right-hand-side which is less invasive. We also brought the front and back spaces together through consistent colour and material choices, and we increased the total number of covers by converting the existing basement space into an extended dining room. Overall, the project has been a real success, creating an uptick in physical restaurant traffic and social media, as well as enhancing brand perception.
