A recent study showed that almost 30% of 16 to 24-year-olds do not drink at all, while 45% of 25-34-year-olds are regularly opting for no or low-alcohol drinks. That’s more than any year previous. These are the prescient findings from Mintel’s Alcoholic Drinks Review that show that brands need to take the next generation’s ambition to drink less more seriously.
It’s all part of the generational drive towards more conscientious, more mindful living across the board, and 2019 is sure to be a year where the alcohol-free and low-alcohol categories really take hold.
Coca-Cola launches alcohol-free range of sparkling drinks
The new range of drinks is called Bar Nøne, featuring a sangria, dry aged cider, Bellini spritz and a spiced ginger mule. The range caters towards wine, beer and cocktails drinkers who want a drink to look forward to that alcoholic and isn’t a club soda.
Presented in traditional beer bottle format, with personalised font that informs the customer which sort of drink they’re experiencing, the brand’s tagline is “all the spirit without the spirits”, and it’s clear they’re taking the best of beer design and applying it to something new.
Peroni launches alcohol-free lager
Peroni Libera 0.0% is Peroni’s new zero-alcohol beer that’s launching in the UK this year with plans for a roll-out later in the year.
This new lager aims to emulate the success of headline brand Peroni Nastro Azzurro, helping health-conscious beer drinkers a way to cut down on their booze.
From a design perspective, the Libera brand is a refreshing take on the existing blue, red and white Peroni brand, opting for a chic silver as the main brand colour, giving the bottle sophisticated associations, helping customers to feel positive about their purchase.
Sheppy’s new low-alcohol classic cider
Sheppy’s new 0.5% cider, imaginatively titled Sheppy’s Low Alcohol Classic Cider is reported to taste exactly the same as their classic, award-winning cider, just with less alcohol. The bottle itself is designed in line with the existing Sheppy’s range, and is therefore a discrete choice for an individual who isn’t looking to make a fuss over their choice of drink.
