Sunday Brunch has become a weekly ritual, dedicating my mornings in search of the perfect brunch experience. I headed South to eclectic Brixton to try the famous Salon. From the outside it looks unassuming, tucked away in Market row, but as we’re led upstairs we are charmed by its edgy interior.
The brunch menu offers four small plates, six mains and a handful of sides, yet the menu has been carefully curated and offers a dish to suit most tastes. We’re excited by almost everything and order the warm banana bread to share whilst we wait for our Mimosa’s. It comes piping hot, lightly spiced and slathered in homemade Hazelnut spread – which I’d go as far to say is the best chocolate spread I have ever tasted). We enjoyed it so much, we ordered another for dessert…oops.
For mains we ordered the smashed avocado on toast with super seeds and pickled chilli (we recommend adding pigs cheeks lardons, it’d be rude not to) and the scrambled eggs with nduja on toast. One thing Salon isn’t is shy on the portions; Both dishes come with doorstep slices of sourdough which were perfectly baked and the toppings packed a punch too.
My nduja infused scrambled egg has revolutionised this breakfast staple and I’ve already ordered my own pot of nduja paste! Salon’s website says it focuses on seasonal and inventive cooking and I have to say, I agree with them!
The menu is successfully creative, thoughtful and utterly delicious and I’d recommend it to anyone. Thank you to all the staff at Salon for making our visit so enjoyable. We’ll see you soon.
