We have just returned from a quick visit to Amsterdam. We took the opportunity to conduct our meetings in FoodHallen, a mixed food and retail environment in central Amsterdam
The Foodhallen in De Hallen Amsterdam is a renovated historic tram depot and opened in Amsterdam West in 2014. The concept is inspired by ‘indoor food markets such as the Torvehallerne Copenhagen, Mercado de San Miguel in Madrid and our local, Borough Market. It’s a ‘big city life’ for locals and tourists to walk around and enjoy different tastes and experiences.
With over 20 traders to choose you’ll never get bored of their line-up. Traders include The Butcher, Pink Flamingo, Wild Moa Pies and Jabugo. Their vibrant environment is proving so successful that the temporary food market is being extended.
In our view it is about the most vibrant food space in Amsterdam and the Vietnamese sandwiches washed down with a wheat beer made the trip worthwhile in its own right. Alongside their rotating eateries, De Hallen holds bingo nights, pub quizzes,
jazz nights and pop-up cocktail bars.
Other dishes include:
- Le Big Fish: Soft shell crab bao buns
- De Ballen Bar: Their chorizo Bitterballen is not to be missed
- Bulls and Dogs: The Smoky Pepper Dog
- Petit Gâteau: mini mini’s – the most delicious mini-sized pies
