Yesterday we spent the day at Pick Me Up, Somerset House.
One of our graphic designers, Catherine, spoke alongside her father about their traditional print company based in Islington. It was great listening them speak about traditional print methods such as Die Stamping and the rejuvenation of the print industry.

Another fascinating talk came later in the morning by a publishing agency called GraphicDesign&. GraphicDesign& are a pioneering publishing house dedicated to creating intelligent, vivid books that explore how graphic design connects with all other things and the value that it brings. Founded by graphic designer Lucienne Roberts and design educator Rebecca Wright merge graphic designers with experts from other fields to inform, educate, entertain and provoke – and to challenge perceptions about what and who graphic design is for.
Their first 2 books ‘Great Expectations’ and ‘The Golden Meaning’ were made up of responses to a brief set by Lucienne and Rebecca. They targeted a variety of different creative industry professionals, giving them a text or subject matter to translate into a visual artwork and the results are fantastic. The duo spoke of upcoming publications exploring both Health and Religion.
Other talks were held by Handsome Frank, Nobrow and Zoe Taylor (One of the PickMeUp Select artists)
