The American Club - Billy's Bar

The American Club - McKays

The American Club, Hong Kong has a rich history, providing a gathering place for social, recreational and business activities for members and their families within a distinct, American atmosphere.

CADA were commissioned to revitalise the club and to create a modern world-class space, attractive to younger members. CADA has worked over the last 24 months to complete the refurbishment of this exclusive member’s club, located above the stock exchange on the 48th and 49th floor. The 3,000 m2 club features three signature menus, two bars, a lounge, private dining rooms, gymnasium and two outdoor terraces.

One of the biggest challenges CADA faced was creating a modern space that subtly captures the spirit and history of America. CADA overcame this by using cultural iconography in clever and innovative ways. One example can be seen in the Clipper room, with CADA commissioning Marine artist Geoff Hunt to paint a mural for the dining rooms back wall. The scene he depicted shows an American Clipper Ship docked in Hong Kong’s harbour in 1868.

Alongside the design, CADA also provided master planning and considered the customer journey through the club, ensuring there is a fully integrated design throughout the very different spaces. CADA have utilised the spectacular views The American Club offers of Hong Kong’s skyline, using large open windows and mirrored ceilings to accentuate the cityscape.
