Last night I took a trip to the Elk in the Woods, a small restaurant tucked away in Camden Passage, Angel.

I have passed the place a few times and always commented on how cosy the customers look and now I know why. From the moment you walk through that big, heavy door and flick through the thick, raw leather menu holder you’re immersed in a world of taxidermy, wine and wood. The interiors are striking with the curved concrete bar (see photo) and tiled walls but it all soon becomes ‘part of the furniture’.

The food was incredible. I chose the roast halibut with cauliflower puree and quinoa, pea shoots, roast celeriac and potatoes, followed by the chocolate fondant and coffee ice cream. You soon find yourself turning into one of those cosy looking people that other people stare at from outside.
