2016 brings together some of London’s best-loved restaurants, bars and cafés at the fairs. New this year, 34 Mayfair will including Locanda Locatelli and Petersham Nurseries.
Umu pop-up, Frieze Masters
Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant Umu is returning to Frieze Masters for its fourth year. Executive Chef, Yoshinori Ishii sources the highest quality, seasonal ingredients from the British Isles, pairing classical Japanese flavours with the avant-garde. Yoshinori has created a special menu for the fair including bento boxes and the much-loved Umu tempura ‘fish and chips’. The Umu bar will also be serving speciality cocktails as well as a wide selection of sake, wine and champagne.
Caravan are offering a 130-cover all-day restaurant and 40-cover bar area with private outdoor terrace at this year’s Frieze festival. Reflecting the restaurant’s signature ‘well-travelled’ food philosophy which has made Caravan a favourite at Frieze and across London, the pop-up menu had a strong focus on local and seasonal produce, with classics alongside new dishes created especially for the fair. These include:
– Roasted cauliflower, harissa, pomegranate yoghurt & sesame
– Flat iron chicken, kimchi slaw & gochujang ketchup
Petersham Nurseries, Frieze London
Double Michelin-starred Petersham Nurseries is one of the best-loved eateries in London. This year Head Chef Damian Clisby is curating a special menu, including Crab linguine with chilli, sea purslane and garlic, a fillet of beef with barolo, Bellotti beans, beetroots, and horseradish creme fraiche and roasted poussin with an autumn salad of pink radicchio, kohlrabi, pomegranate and hazelnuts.
For a more casual meal, downstairs at Frieze London, Petersham Nurseries will serve drinks all day with a more informal bar menu, using the best quality seasonal ingredients from the kitchen garden for salads, soups and sandwiches. Handpicked wines from the Petersham Cellar collection were available alongside a selection of cocktails.
Brunswick House, Frieze London
Renowned British restaurant, Brunswick House will return to the fair serving inventive, seasonal food. Jackson Boxer and his team will be offering a selection of their favourite autumnal food, using the freshest and most seasonal ingredients.
Head chef Andrew Clarke is renowned for his love of vegetables, so expect an inspiring range of salads with stand-out dishes like roast squash, barbequed tofu, walnuts and lemon or the buttered parsnip, salt baked kohlrabi, grilled leaves and puffed wild rice.
