On Thursday evening I was lucky enough to see the Thomas Heatherwick talk on ‘Ingenuity, Transformation and Surprise’. It was great to get an insight into the original briefing, design development process and thinking behind projects we’re all familiar with, the Shanghai Expo pavilion, Routemaster bus, as well as the Olympic Cauldron’s of course- which prompted spontaneous applause when watching the footage back!

The highlight was hearing about a number of new projects that are yet to be fully revealed – notably the first ever contemporary art museum in South Africa, the garden bridge crossing the Thames and the Bombay Sapphire gin distillery in the UK (see pics below!)

His passion for design, sense of humour and innate sensitivity kept us all captivated  –  a true inspiration.
