Earlier this week I paid a visit to Mr Buckleys, a cool modern European restaurant based on Hackney Road. I instantly loved it’s cosy atmospheric, with its dim lighting, soft music and minimalist interior.
The menu is made up of lots of small plates and sharers – so much so, that we struggled to decide. The waiter was fantastic, talking us through the menu, his recommendations and complimenting dishes. With some help, we chose the Salmon tartare, the glazed pork belly with jalapeno sauce and the king oyster mushrooms with brussel sprouts, aubergine and miso.
The salmon tartare came out first and was beautifully fresh – the perfect way to start the evening. Then arrived the King oyster mushrooms; a well presented dish but the mushrooms were some how tough which was a little disappointing.
However, Mr. Buckley’s quickly redeemed themselves. The Pork belly and Jalapeno sauce was incredible. The pork belly melted in your mouth and the Jalapeno sauce had the perfect zing to compliment the flavours of the meat. It was so good, we even ordered another one so we could experience the taste all over again!
To finish we tried the Tonka bean chocolate pudding, which came served with shortbread, wild rice and mascarpone. It was just the right amount to leave us feeling full and completely satisfied.
I thought Mr. Buckley’s was fantastic and I will definitely be back to try their brunch menu!
