New Yaohan approached CADA Design to open their second premium department store in Macau called NY8 New Yaohan in the newly opened Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau. As one of only two department stores in the city the main retail focus is on attracting tourists and visitors who are looking for a distinct retail shopping experience.
The Influence...
Our designers were influenced by Macau’s rich Portuguese heritage when developing the original design concept. The use of authentic materials and soft organic shapes create a contemporary and luxurious setting for the space. The store comprises of four core departments – Palace Gourmet, Kids, Lifestyle, and Supermarket. These along with unique dining offers some of which are firstly introduced to Macau, appealing to a broad spectrum of customers.
The Departments...
The Kids department “Kid’s Cavern” focuses on a sense of play and fun. It is family friendly, showcasing products and services designed to appeal to families on vacation and mixes contemporary and nostalgic design elements, including a merry-go-round for children.
Carefully selected lifestyle brands are curated around a tiled pathway showcasing the best of NY8 New Yaohan’s personality. Footwear, apparel, and accessories give the Lifestyle department a fashion focus alongside technology and homewares which also includes a demo-kitchen.
NY8 New Yaohan contains an upmarket foodhall called “Palace Gourmet”. The space includes a cafe, restaurants, and many serviced counters including premium chocolate, wine, coffee, tea, and ice cream. The Supermarket is designed to cater for both tourists and the residents in Macau. It has a wide serviced offering from cheese and sushi to strong seasonal fresh and frozen ranges as well as speciality products including the cigar room and grooming essentials counter.
The Exploration...
At 160,000sqft, this large department store across a single floor required a clear overall wayfinding and graphic signage concept. Therefore, leading customers through the space, allowing them to easily navigate and orient themselves on their journey. Completed during the pandemic and opening in Spring 2022. The onsite period was managed remotely by the team from CADA Design’s Hong Kong studio, working closely with the client throughout.
